Vascular surgery is a young, dynamic and rapidly expanding specialty that deals with the comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with diseases and disorders of the arteries, veins and lymphatics.

In India, dedicated peripheral vascular and endovascular surgery has evolved from the broad specialty of cardio-thoracic- vascular surgery only in the past decade.

Dr Sumit Kapadia, a gold-medalist from Baroda Medical College, obtained his general surgical training and senior residency from SSG Hospital, Baroda. He later underwent super-specialty training in vascular & endovascular surgery from Sir Ganga Ram hospital, New Delhi, which is the one of the topmost institutes in India.

Dr Sumit Kapadia was fortunate to be the first surgeon from Western India and fourth in India to undergo this specialized training in vascular surgery, endovascular interventions, vascular medicine and non-invasive vascular investigations including color Doppler.

The concept of non-cardiac vascular disorders and dedicated vascular specialists is fairly novel for our country.

In the present era, arises the need for a vascular clinic which offers all-inclusive care to patients with diseases or disorders of their blood vessels.

Vascular specialists provide care to patients with diseases or disorders of their blood vessels except the heart or brain. There are very few surgeons in India, trained in this specialty. -Dr. Sumit Kapadia
